Since coming
on the air on December 10, 1922, WDRC has had just two owners.
Thus it was a shock for many to read these words in a press release
from Buckley Broadacsting corporate headquarters in Greenwich on
March 5, 2014:
"After
much reflection, the Board of Trustees has decided that the
reality of the evolving competitive landscape, and our sincere
desire to see this historic brand continue, are cause for a
change in the ownership of our Connecticut properties. Our decision
to negotiate with, and eventually sell WDRC-AM/FM to Connoisseur,
gives our audience, advertisers, and employees access to the
considerable resources of this multi-dimensional media and entertainment
company. For over half a century Buckley Broadcasting has been
the steward of these great call letters and there is not a better
company than Connoisseur to ensure the continued and accelerated
future success of the WDRC brand."
No sale price
was disclosed. It is anticipated the sale will receive FCC approval
by early summer 2014.
Connoisseur
Media is located in Westport, CT. It was founded in 1993 and owns
more than three dozen radio properties including stations in New
Haven, Bridgeport and Stamford, CT. For more information, click
